Meyer Meets Atmos

Australia’s Soundfirm have selected Meyer Sound for its new cinema loudspeaker system. The Dolby Atmos dubbing stage and large mixing room is Australia‚Äôs first to feature an all-Meyer Sound screen channel and surround loudspeaker system.

Link is here!

The monitoring system incorporates three Acheron 80 screen loudspeakers, eight HMS-12 and 29 HMS-10 cinema surround loudspeakers, six X-800C high-power cinema subwoofers, and two 500-HP subwoofers in the rear for surround low end.

And I do like the 500-HP subs. Good choice!

The whole Atmos thing is a big w***. Every theater sounds different, and very high power speakers are now located adjacent to the audience which makes large numbers of audience seats unusable. However Greater Union is still selling these unusable seats. Levels are dangerously loud, and the Meyer speakers (unlike the approved JBL units) have to be heavily EQ’d to match the required Dolby X-curve. All this extra EQ is known to cause Meyer speakers to audibly misbehave.

This is Atmos beta test one. Wake me up if they can get it to work two years from now.
